Integrative Psychiatry

Mental health is influenced by more than symptoms alone. Sleep, nutrition, stress,
physical health, lifestyle, and other biological and environmental factors can all play
a role in how you feel. At CopeWell Psychiatry & Wellness, integrative psychiatry
combines evidence based psychiatric care with a broader, whole person approach
to better understand and support your mental health.

What is Integrative Psychiatry?

Integrative psychiatry brings conventional psychiatric treatment together with evidence informed complementary approaches. Rather than focusing solely on a diagnosis or medication, we consider the broader factors that may influence your mental and emotional well being.
Depending on your individual needs, your treatment may incorporate psychiatric medication, lifestyle and behavioral strategies, nutritional considerations, targeted laboratory testing, and carefully selected supplements alongside traditional psychiatric care.

What to Expect
From Your Visit

We look beyond your symptoms to understand factors that may be affecting your mental health, including sleep, nutrition, physical activity, stress, medical conditions, medications, supplements, and daily habits.
When clinically appropriate, laboratory testing may be recommended to evaluate nutritional, metabolic, or other health factors that could contribute to or overlap with psychiatric symptoms. Testing is individualized and is not required for every patient.
Sleep, physical activity, nutrition, stress management, and social connection can all support mental health. We may identify realistic changes in these areas that complement your psychiatric treatment and fit your individual needs.
When appropriate, vitamins, minerals, or other supplements may be considered as part of your treatment plan. Recommendations are individualized and take into consideration available evidence, your health history, current medications, laboratory findings when relevant, and potential interactions. Supplements can have side effects and medication interactions, so thoughtful clinical oversight is important.

Who Benefits From
Integrative Psychiatry?

Integrative psychiatry may be a good fit for individuals who want a more comprehensive approach to their mental health care. It may be particularly helpful if you are interested in understanding how lifestyle, nutrition, sleep, stress, or physical health may be interacting with your psychiatric symptoms.
It may also appeal to individuals who want to explore evidence informed complementary strategies alongside medication or other conventional treatments.

Benefits of
Integrative Psychiatry

Integrative psychiatry provides an opportunity to look at mental health through a broader lens. By considering biological, psychological, behavioral, lifestyle, and environmental influences together, treatment can be more individualized and responsive to your unique needs. This whole person perspective is a central principle of integrative health.

The goal is not to replace proven psychiatric treatment with supplements or lifestyle changes. Instead, these strategies can be thoughtfully incorporated alongside conventional care when they are appropriate, safe, and supported by the available evidence.
